This Sunday (May 12), is Mother’s Day and whether you are one or know someone who is a mom we all have someone we should be showing our appreciation for. This goes for country stars too! Some of the biggest country musicians have revealed how they each show their mama’s love on Mother’s Day.
Scroll through the pictures below to see how your favorite artists are spending the upcoming holiday.
Reba McEntire
On Reba’s last album Stronger Than the Truth, she left a message for her mother Jacqueline Smith. McEntire explains, “Because who besides God has never given up on me Mama.”
The country legend knows that her mother would love her even if she never became famous. McEntire goes on to say, “She’d go, ‘I’m proud of all four of my kids… All my kids are good. I love every one of ‘em.”’
Eric Church
This country rocker says he learned a lot from his mom, including his musical talent.
“My mom is by far the toughest person that I’ve met. She’s tough,” he says. “One of those people who’s been through a lot in her life, adversity wise, and never complains, always really resilient with anything that’s happened to her. It’s just that attitude, the positive attitude, regardless of what has happened, that is the one thing that I got from her. She’s where I get my talent from, musically. She sings great, always has. Her mom sang great. I owe my musical chops to her. Career-wise, I owe her everything, and just in life-wise, she’s given me a lot of the qualities that it has taken to get me where I am, not only as a musician but as a man.”
Florida Georgia Line
This country duo say they have inherited many different traits from each of their mothers.
“I think I got my sweetness from my mom,” says bandmate Brian Kelley. “She’s an angel, and I’m very thankful I had such a great, loving mother. I’m super thankful for her leadership, and for watching her and my dad.”
Tyler Hubbard believes that he may have gotten some rough traits from his mom. “The quality I got from my mom, I think, is a good, healthy dose of stubbornness,” the singer admits with a laugh. “Probably a little bit of OCD. I think I got that from my mom, too.”
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill
Tim McGraw says that his mother knows him better than he knows himself. “My mom lived in Florida, and I was in college in Louisiana,” he recounts. “I was in pre-law, believe it or not. I’ve ended up paying more lawyers than I’ve ever made as one. I started playing clubs over a summer, and I knew that’s what I wanted to do. I told my mom, and her reaction was, ‘I’m surprised you haven’t done this sooner.’ I loaded up, I sold everything I had and got on a Greyhound bus and moved to Nashville.”
McGraws wife Faith Hill says that mothers day means something totally different to her now that she has her own children. “Your life changes when you have them,” she notes. “Pregnancy is one thing, giving birth is another thing, but being a mom is even a greater responsibility. There’s nothing like it. The moment your child is born, you are a mother for the rest of that child’s life — and your life, and it’s a huge responsibility.”
Jake Owen
Jake Owen admits that even though he is a grown man, he still goes to his mother for her advice.
“If she comes to a show, I may say something onstage and she says, ‘I don’t know if you should say that anymore on stage; it kind of puts you in a bad light, and I didn’t raise you to be that kind of boy.’ And she’s right! Thankfully I have a mom there to correct me,” he explains.
Miranda Lambert
Miranda Lambert is happy to have her mother as one of her best friends and often goes to her mom for relationship advice.
“It’s funny, because my parents actually work together, live together … did everything together, and they made it work. I feel like I have a really good example of what love’s supposed to be like,” Lambert says. “I mean, they have their problems; don’t get me wrong. But my mom’s a perfect person to give me advice because she lives it every day … I guess she’s probably where I get a lot of the opinionated side of me, because she’ll say if I’m wrong, I’m wrong. And she doesn’t sugar-coat anything.”
Luke Bryan
Party boy Luke Bryan admits that he has let Mother’s day slip his mind on occasion.
“When is Mother’s Day? This Sunday? Oh, my Lord. Are you serious? I’m in a world of [let’s just say ‘trouble’]!” he said one year. “Nah, I’ll figure something out in the ninth inning. We’ll get something figured out.”
