My Son Is Graduating High School, Here’s My Letter To Him

Dear Big Wheel,

Your Donna came up to me this afternoon that I needed to write my senior letter to you by today.

This letter is meant to encourage you as you move forward in your adult life … to make the right decisions and to remember that you only make a first impression.

Continue to follow God’s glory and He will take care of you as you continue life’s journey.

When you moved to our home in Alpharetta from Tennessee you were in 1stgrade. You have made me laugh and light my smile every day.

Your biggest supporter during the last 11 years has not been me. Your biggest supporter during the last 11 years has not been your mom.

Never once did Donna say to me – “Wil is your child … you handle that.”

Your Donna has pushed you from the beginning. She has provided you with unconditional love your entire life but your Donna always knew the boundaries. Donna raised you as her step son but she always respected your mom and her role as your “mother.”

I remember taking you to Summit Hill for morning carpool when I did the afternoon show and then picking you up in the afternoon at St Francis when I started hosting the morning show. For two years you have been a Cambridge Bear and I could not be more proud of you!

You are a great kid Big Wil. You’re taller than your dad and your grandfather. Not only do we all share the same name but you and I share the same birthday which is very special to me.

You have the skills you need. Remember, in the end, it is not the destination, but the manner in which you walked that reveals who you are.

Walk well.

Walk with love.

And as you walk remember, always, that I love you.
