Nothing can be scarier for a new parent than their child having to be placed in the NICU or PICU at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Thankfully, the ICU Grandpa is there to take care of everyone! David Deutchman has been given the nickname the ICU Grandpa because he spends so much time with the little ones. 17 years ago David retired from his job as an international marketing executive, and needed something to fill his time. One day when David was leaving a rehab appointment for a leg injury, he just decided to pop into Children’s to see if they had any volunteer opportunities.

Now, David heads to the pediatric and neonatal ICUs (PICU and NICU) two days a week and holds babies whose parents can’t be with them that day and he loves it!
