If you recognize this sign in, you are thinking about all the great conversations you had on IM as a teenager or even college student in the library.
AIM will officially shut down on December 15, after 20 years in service, the news marks the end of an era for anyone who grew up with the internet in the late 90’s and early 2000’s.
When AIM hit the NEW web in 1997, using the World Wide Web required a desktop computer with a very slow dial-up connection that tied up the home phone line at your house and your parents got way mad about it, AIM helped establish the internet as a place to hang out rather than being a simple utility.
AIM offered places for people to express themselves with embarrassing screen names, profiles filled with colorful fonts and emotional lyrics, and as many messages, as you could send, before someone in your house kicked you offline. (Looking at you mom and dad)
I say we all sign in again, one last time for one HUGE party and go out in style!
